Presidents’ Letter

Dear WISE Members, Sponsors and Friends: Despite the challenges of 2020, WISE had a particularly productive and exciting year. While we were disappointed not to host our educational events in person, the Zoom virtual format enabled us to reach women and girls all over the country – a first for us! Highlights and Milestones We are proud to report that we have financial support from 100% of our board members and generous contributions from our advisory board, demonstrating their strong commitment to our mission of financial education to females of all ages. WISE deepened its relationship with its community partners: Girls Inc; Girl Scouts; UCI’s Center for Investment and Wealth Management (CIWM), Paul Merage School of Business; and added an exciting new partner, Chapman University’s Argyros School of Business and Economics. In 2020, we organized and participated in 14 events, involving more than 50 volunteers and 12 speakers, reaching over 1250 women and girls. Girl Scouts Cookie Kick-Off. WISE organized and staffed the Money Room at this big rally, which hosts over 600 scouts of all ages. Cookie University. In collaboration with the Girl Scouts, we designed a more sophisticated financial literacy program for teenage girls, presented at the Cookie Kick-off. This program, now in its second year, has expanded to include the basics of investing. More than 50 girls attended. Workshops with Girls Inc. In a group setting of in-person workshops held prior to the pandemic and later virtually, we counseled college bound girls on funding strategies, budgeting, credit, and investing. Tearing Down the Pink Wall. In 2018, WISE introduced its groundbreaking Tearing Down the Pink Wall series to educate and inspire women of all ages to reach their full potential. These events cover financial literacy topics and the career journeys of successful and accomplished women. In 2020 we held three Pink Wall events, registration for these events topped 650 – a milestone in attendance. Topics and speakers at these events included:

  • Lessons Learned from Legendary Investors featuring Consuelo Mack, host and founder of PBS’s WealthTrack. This event was in partnership with UCI Paul Merage School of Business.

  • View from the Top. Members of Barron’s prestigious 100 Most Influential Women in Finance, shared their market views and career paths to an audience of over 400 registrants. The event was hosted in partnership with Chapman University’s Argyros School of Business and Economics.

  • Divorce Workshop. Three experts spoke to our membership and the community on handling the financial, legal, and emotional aspects of divorce.

Thank you to the WISE Family WISE is grateful to all our sponsors, supporters, members, and volunteers who enable us to fulfill our mission. It is exciting to see our footprint continue to expand in Southern California, with the virtual format, and beyond. We are looking forward to continuing our important work in 2021 with new partners and expanded activities.

Happy Holidays! Angela Dailey and Darlene March, WISE Co-Presidents
