Podcast | “Get a little bit more comfortable with negotiating,” advice from award-winning journalist Veronica Dagher on how to navigate a new regulatory landscape for buying and selling homes.

Whether you’re buying or selling real estate, the rules have changed. Home buyers, in particular, now have to negotiate a commission rate with their agents before seeing a single property. In the past, buyers didn’t have to negotiate their agents’ fees, because buying agents were almost always compensated by sellers after closing.

In this podcast, Veronica Dagher, an award-winning Wall Street Journal personal finance reporter, discusses the new rules and what they mean for buyers and sellers.

Dagher says the new rules make it more important than ever to pick the right buyers’ agent. “Typically, people don't shop around for a buyer’s agent. They sign on with the first buyer's agent they meet,” she says. “I would recommend interviewing at least two or three to find out more about their approach, how they're going to help you differentiate yourself as a buyer, how well they know the neighborhood and their years of experience—all so you know you're dealing with somebody who knows what they're doing and can put your best interests at heart.”
